Unit Overview

This unit introduces students to the principles and techniques of achieving academic success through effective communication. It falls into two parts.

Part I defines the principle and features of communication. It also explains to students how to interpret message from the teacher, and how to formulate their own messages.

Part II defines the principle of academic success. It offerts tips on how to write assignments, prepare an oral presentation, and succeed in an examination.

Learning Outcome

Upon completion, students will be able to:

  • To define what is communication, identify its features and explain ways to decode teacher's messages and encode their own messages.
  • To define what is academic success, identify its dertiminants, and master how to suceed in assignments, oral presentations, and examinations.

Unit Tasks

  • Read and review the lesson study guide;
  • Watch the lesson videos
  • Read, review, and complete the lecture note
  • Complete assignment 2, and review the answers
  • Take and complete the quiz test


Each lesson in this unit offers 100 credits, including:

  • 25 credits for video attendance.
  • 25 credits for completing teaching notes, 5 for each blank
  • 25 credits for completing multiple choice questions, 5 for each question
  • 25 credits for taking the quiz test, 5 for each question
